Crashed car at head of estate

    All,
Don't know if this is the correct forum for this but need some advice/information on how best to proceed. Three nights ago a small van was crashed at the enterance to the estate I live in. The van (possibly stolen) casued quite a bit of damage to the boundary railing and destroyed a stop sign as well.

Three days after the crash, the van is still in place. The Gardai have were notified by several residents on Tuesday morning but the vehicle is still in place (on top of the mangeled stop sign and railing). There are no discs in the window but the reg plates are still fitted to the front and back so ownership of the vehicle should be easily established.

With the weekend approaching my concern is that this van will be further damaged by passers-by. I would have thought that the van would have been removed fairly sharpish by the authorites but that doesn't appear to be the case. Who is responsible for removing this if the owner is not available?

    Cheers.

Thats typical, park illegally and your car can be towed away in jig time, abandon a crashed van at the entrance to a residential estate and no one want to know. Maybe there's just no money in it?

Call NCPS.. They'll be out before you hang up!

Spoke to someone in the CC enviromental department. The vehicle would have to be classified as abandoned for them to take it away. They would need to contact the registered owner in order to get them to move it (they have three weeks from the sending of the first letter to reply). The person I was speaking with advised me to contact the Gardai to get it removed.

And so here we are again - Gardai have been contacted already, crashed vehicle is still in place. Can't see this ending well.

Sorry if I missed this but is it a Private Estate or County Council run?

Push it out on to the main road and walk away. Seriously.

It's getting windy these days. Those reg plates could just blow right off and into a bin ;). The council will be out to take it away the same day if that's the case.

..... not if they've already notified the owner ;)

A car was left outside my house for months with the reg plates on. No tax, no insurance, no nct. Informed the guards numerous times and they kept saying that they got onto the owner. Council wouldn't touch it with the plates on. Funnily enough, both guards and council said when I asked what can they do, that they couldn't do anything with the plates on (emphasis from both parties on the last bit). Luckily, the severe weather took the plates off one night and the car was taken away the next day.
