I got a quote to insure all the bikes in my gaff. For the same price, I could just get a decent new one each year.

I added mine onto the house insurance. I'd already got two covered on it and the third cost me €75 (valued at €4500).

Does that cover theft from the gaff? Anything else?

Which insurance company offer bike (valued €X,XXX,-) insurance under house content?

i added them as specified risks on the house policy, and it covers theft from in/outside the home or garage, aswell as accidental damage. Check your home policy to see can you add it. any time i looked in the past it was about 10 euro per 100 of insurance required on the bike specific policies.

Didn't think about that so it might not be applicable to the OP. Wife sorted it but AFAIK the other bikes they are covered in the house or shed and if they are out and about but locked. 3rd bike is a TT so not used that often (99% in the house).

I don't commute very often and when I do the bike isn't left on the street so theft from the street was not a concern

I'm with RSA. I'm pretty sure it won't be fixed value/new for old, so they will take into account depreciation/replacement value and I'll have an excess too.

Checked a couple months ago - my road bike is covered under home insurance which includes theft from the house/premises incl shed.

Paid extra to get get cover on my wife's, which includes theft anywhere outside the home, down the town etc - think it cost roughly 7-8% of the bike cost.

Tried a few of the online providers earlier in the year, seemed to average about 10% cost of the bike.

I think the benefit you get on home insurance is via the no claims bonus discount.

Worth checking with your home ins provider to get a quote.
