First HTPC

    Hi all,

    Looking to get a HTPC.
Will need it to do the following:
Be able to stream from the web (sites like LiveOnlineFooty and FlashSportStreams etc) - currently hook up my laptop to do this and it's hassle.
Be able to play all formats of music and video.
    That's about it.
Once it's quiet and has smooth playback I'm happy.
    Was looking at this: http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/product/computers/80001279/asrock_ion_3d_152d_atom_d525_2gb_320gb_gt218_ion/details.aspx
Would it be ok for what I need?
I could also build if I was persuaded of the advantages.
    Thanks.

Am thinking of something similar. Think the one you linked to should be fine - RAM you might look to increase at some point, might be a bit slow but if you are just watching online it really should be fine.

Will be curious to see how you get on. Not sure if you saw it but for another 200 you get a Blu Ray player and the extra RAM - little bit pricey I agree but even so.

Not sure about Komplett but when sold from other outlets these units come without an OS so please prepare for that - whether you buy Win 7 or use something else - think for the 3D functionality though you might need Win 7.

Earlier this week I would have said: for that price, I would be looking at something quite different. See here

I would probably skip the BR and go for Linux over Windows.
Also if you go for a 320GB HD, that would be significantly cheaper than the 2TB in the link.

However, now I am thinking NAS and thin client (Raspberry PI?) with XBMC?

Changed my mind altogether since and just bought a Boxee!

I also have a PC (specs below) that I was thinking of using as a HTPC.
It's noisy enough so I suppose I'd have to change the fans to quieter ones (any other ideas).
I assume I'd have to add a HDMI out also?
    What else (hardware wise)?
