I bought a return train ticket there on sunday from sligo to dublin. It got marked in sligo but never got checked on the train. I was wondering can i use the return of this ticket to go from sligo to dublin again? Or does it have to be used from dublin back to sligo route.

It has to be used from Dublin, it being the "return" leg of your trip..

If travling from Connolly the barriers would of read the ticket and if you tried to use it coming from Dublin again it wouldn't accept it.

Ya but the thing is, i got it from sligo to drumcondra last sunday, so it didnt go through the connoly ticket gates. What if i was to go from carrick to deumcondra with it? I would be passin through any gates, just getting it marked on the train from carrick to drumcondra. Does this make sense?

But you are still making two journeys in the same direction not a return journey. If you are caught by a ticket inspector on the train you could be landed with a €100 fine + the cost of a ticket.

It's called a return ticket for a good reason; you are returning on it ;)

I wouldn't rely on that, plenty of stories on here about people thinking that and ending up with big fines.

Not all trains have conductors on board; don't take it as a given that your next train will.
