rent allowance

Hey,

I need some advice. I'm 18 and now 3 months pregnant and the problem is my mother found out last week and I have been staying in my friends house since as she threw me out. I can't stay here for much longer as she is only doing me a favour letting me stay with her for the time being.

I have been unemployed and on Job Seekers Allowance for the last few weeks and the 100 euro I get per week will not be enough for me to get my own place for me and my baby. I am really worried as I am facing being pregnant and homeless in the next few weeks if I can not sort something out asap. Does anyone know of any options I may have?

You could to go to your local council and tell them your situation.
I don't think rent allowance will be an option for you if you haven't been paying rent for six months previously (other posters could help here?) but at least talk to the council and see what options you have.

They might tell you that you have the family home-I know you said your mother threw you out, but can that issue be resolved?

If so, you would be able to live there and let's be honest, you're going to be going through a tough time and you could do with someone helping you.
Try and work things out with you mother.
It's gonna be hard for you bringing up a child on your own at such a young age.

(Sorry if I've gone off topic, but I don't see what can be done if there is a family home available)

Rosie1994, contact the Teen Parents Support Programme people http://www.tpsp.ie/ for the information you need.

Even if there isn't a link to your particular area, call any of the numbers and see if they can send someone to you. They would also be well placed to advise you on resources you can turn to in your own area.

I'd say you can get assessed as having a housing need.

Have a read of this, it's the citizens info page on rent supplement:

So, I'd say your first step would be to get your local authority to do a housing assessment.
