Hey folks, don't normally post in here but I'm in a bit of a bind in regards writer's block.
I'm trying to break out of my slump but it's not been easy. I'm on the hunt for good writing challenges/prompts to get the creative juices flowing again so if anyone could kindly point me in the direction of a good challenge I'll be forever grateful.

Open a thesarus or dictionary at random, pick a word or two, use what you find as your title or theme for your piece. Begin writing ...

As well as the arena, there should be a variations on a theme competition coming up soon enough as well. It's where you get about two weeks to write a story on a specified theme and the entries are posted anonymously and everyone votes.

If you do a forum search for VOAT it should throw up at least the last few.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

I try to write random creative sentences in a set number of syllables. Then when I want to write a song and I'm stuck, I use one of those sentences to get a verse going. For example:

    Nine syllable lines

Sweetness of her laughs my festival

    Eight syllable lines

    Orchids line every green pulpit

    Seven syllable lines

If my arm has made you cold

    Delirium pulsating

    Candle lit the children dance

    Nothing satisfies the fool

The slow decay of rotting love

    Saplings dance beyond the bluff

Save your questions for my grave

The deep’ning shades of your iris

    A one-legg’d swine my prophet

March of an army, like waves

    Bitter man’s comfort blanket

    Six syllable lines

    Unnamed mischief makers

    High-pitched whispers draw near

    Holy men dusting hands

    Peppered moth wings beating

    Laces tied like nooses

    Hand brushes the water

    Dimpled faced children play
