Sora Double Chainring on Triple Crank

I'd say you'd get away with it. I'm running a sora triple 8sp chainset with a 9sp chain and the rest without problem.

That said, you probably don't need a 52t ring. Instead, you need to pedal faster. Higher cadence means less strain on your joints, therefore lower impact exercise.

You might have a problem with the front mech as the Sora mech is designed for a max of 50t outer ring. The older model shimano mechs are designed for a 52t outer ring and can be picked up cheap enough.

what cassette have you got on it? If you go to an 11 (if you dont have one allready) on the back the 50 11 should give you bigger gearing than a 52 12.

specs says its 12-15t and upfront is 50-39-30.

my figuring was that if I had 52-39-30 upfront I would have gearing like a Double setup. Granny is never used and in hindsight I should never have bought the triple.

do you mean 12 - 25? If so id look at getting an 11, it would be the easiest thing to change and you wont have any compatibility issues. thats not to say the other chainring wouldnt work tho. It may, but you may have issues.

doh, yeah a typo there. 12-25

Cool Ill consider that Lenny. Not mad into modifying the road bike but sick of the noisy clattery triple setup.
