    Hi ,

I currently have an 2011 ford kuga commercial .Its a grand yoke but i want to change in jan for something a bit better.Would be willing to spend about 50k inc the trade in and since the new vrt rules i just dont know what to get.

I drove the freelander commercial this evening its a great jeep and very nice on the road but looks a little dated for 40k.Im not sure about the discovery business comercial ,its abit too big and abit boxy in the back.

I know there is the Land cruiser ,pagero etc but they are abit too agricultural.
I need a closed back as well so crew cabs are out.

    Anyone have any suggestions.

You could try a Volkswagen Touareg.

Yeah the new ones look alright but im not sure they make them at the factory in commercial so under the new rules they would be alot more expensive

I believe that further changes to commercial classification are on the way, and that's going to see and end of the Disco 5 Seat commercial - non to be had anywhere from stock either at the moment.

Vehicles now need to leave the factory as a Van, so there is no Toureg Commercial anymore. The new LandCruiser isn't too bad on the road, but it's nowhere near as good to drive as the Kuga (but would kill it off road). There is a new Pajero availabel since the middle of this year I believe - haven't seen or driven one though.

That's about it for Commercial 4x4's I think, except for the Hyundai ix35 - and I don't think that's going to give you anything over an above what you'll get from the Kuga.

    X5 or Nissan Patrol maybe?
With regard to the new rule mentioned that cars must leave the factory as vans, will that effect cars that have already had the switch over or will they just be stopping it going forward? I have a golf van that has been converted from a car, it's a van on the log book though and has been for years....

    existing cars are unaffected.
Again the x5 is seriously expensive now due to the change might as well get a passenger.

Ror thanks for the info.Do you know what are the impications of buying a passenger suv/4x4 and using it for work.e.g a volvo xc90,bmw x5.Im self employed and vat registered.

So say a freelander is 35,000 .What can i claim back vat wise and then say a volvo is 60k can i claim anything back from an expenses point of view

On passenger vehicles you can only reclaim a maximum of 20% of the VAT, if it's used for business more than 60% of the time. However, this only applies to vehicles up to 156g of CO2, so that's going to put practically all of the large 4x4's that you are looking out, meaning no reclaimable VAT rather than 100% reclaimable on the commercial.

Wasn't the patrol discontinued 4 years ago?
