Hi there lads a mate of mine needs to get prizes for an upcoming comp. I said I'd ask around as to what'd be decent "run of the mill" type prizes.
It's not a medal as in captains prize or anything, more decent without going overboard.
He's putting up the prizes and moneys not an object as such. Just what's ordinary/respectable.
I know it's a bit of a subjective question but any comment would be appreciated thanks.

Really depends on the type of players you'll have out, if its all golfers then you could look at golf related prizes, like a gps or electric golf buggy (something like that)

If they are just society/occasional golfers they might not get enough use of an equipment prize,so you could look at maybe a complimentary 4-ball at a top course or overnight stay with golf in a hotel?

Thanks mate, honestly I'd have assumed golf related would be a given?

If not it would totally open it up alright. Looking up there at the stuff mentioned what €1200 ish value cover the 3?
    €500
    €400
    €300
    Split like that on prizes?
Seems a touch rich to me. I don't want to identify him but it's a sponsored open club comp in a club in the top 100 Irish. Top half. That a better idea of "prestige"?

Find out what the budget is otherwise you'll just be going round in circles.
Common enough "decent" prizes are Driver for first, Hybrid for second and wedge for third.

Mp62 thanks for that. That will help set prices. To be fair to him I understand not wanting to look foolish, cheap or expensive.

I've won feck all, I was no good to him :-)

That's hugh prize money for 3 prizes. A very good prize range would be 300, 200, 100 or as MP62 said a driver, hybrid and wedge. If there's a bigger field maybe have a 4th prize or gross along the lines of 275, 200, 150 (gross), 75. That would be a suitable prize range for a big event such as a scratch cup or similar prestigious outing. I've won a couple of open competitions in away clubs around the Dublin area and generally first prize was in the region of €90.

However if getting golf prizes as in clubs, shoes, bags etc make sure that they're easily exchangeable as most likely whatever is bought won't suit the winners.

You have to include a Gross in there somewhere. It is after all the best round of the day and dont understand when comps dont include it. So would agree with Dr Collossus about the prizes anything more is getting a bit rich
