So has there been training flights out of there this week too? There have been a pair of similar planes flying over my house twice or three times a day since the Monday.

Not to sound like a smart arse or anti air corps, but what is the reason the pilots undertake this training?

Do they have some sort of aerial naval support role?

Because they can? Because it's fun? Because it's part of the syllabus?
The bigger question is what's the point of the PC9s.

But whatever, part of the role is a form of light strike. In the unlikely event they are asked to strafe some target. It's probably better they had some practice. Though in a reality helicopter mounted machine gun might be a better option.

It's safer to fire out to sea less chance of collateral damage.

Why do they fire guns ? Why do soldiers shoot ? Because it's better they have done it rather than the day they need to they don't know how to. its the military it's sort of a requirement to be able to shoot !

Fantastic. We train regularly up in gormo and indeed my unit are on annual camp there, besides that I live just up the road and when i can, ill take a day off to head down to a decent spot on the beach and watch the training. Some excellent flying shown by the pilots as its not an easy skill to master. I personally think its always great to hold onto a skill like this with dwindling resources, otherwise our pilots will end up having to travel abroad to do this kind of training.
