illness benefit to disability allowance

my husband is on illness benefit at the moment and was hoping to return to work shortly, however the doc has just told him he will no longer be able to do the work he did before and there is no other position available. The doc mentioned disability allowance!What is the difference? Will he be able to stay on illness…
