Anyone doing this course. Is it hard, interesting, are there many at the lectures, are the teachers good.

What are the prospects after completing the degree. Further study or are there employment options there at the moment.

    Any advice appreciated.

I'm heading into third year PD. it's a brilliant course imo, covers a variety of subject areas in the first two years, from design and marketing to entrepreneurship, psychology, engineering and manufacturing. I would not class any module as particularly 'hard' as they are introductory modules to topic areas in first year. Generally PD students have alot less exams then other degrees as much of the work in continuous assessment. Lecture hours per week vary from approx 25 to 10 in latter years of the degree, however you will have more project based work that will make up the free time!

In third year you can choose a six month work placement or erasmus to austria or netherlands. The work placement is chosen by yourself, for example many people in my year have different interests and areas they want to focus in, some want to spend there placement in manufacturing, some in graphic design and advertising, some working on cad software and others want to focus on marketing, pr, and bringing products to the market. It's quite an open course in that regard that you are capible of exploring the areas you have a greater interest.

With respect, I would say that it is a course with greater prospects then some degrees. Every company needs marketing, and whether it is a product or service based. All product companies also need PD'er whether it be designing the product packaging, the shape of a drinks bottle, the handle on a saucepan, or the shape of a gear knob in a car, almost everything in society today has been designed, prototyped and redesigned. There is also options to continue to a masters and specify in different areas.

Feel free to have a look around here and see some of the modules on the course. http://design.nuim.ie/courses/bsc-product-design/ The lecturers are a great help, their details are available through that link also, feel free to email them too! Hope this helps.
