I switched on my laptop last night and it wouldnt give me an internet connection even though it was fully connected wirelessly (it said 'no internet access') Other laptop, xbox and idevices worked fine on home network. Tried it today in work wirelessly and wired and both methods are failing too. Any ideas? Have reset the wireless modem, checked drivers are up to date etc. Its a dell inspiron, win 7. thanks in advance.

Defo, my sis had the same issue with the antivirus soft recently.
As matter of fact it was also a Dell laptop,McAfee security/antivirus soft to be precise.
She uninstalled McAffe and got the free version http://free.avg.com/ie-en/homepage .

nice one, that did the job. Thanks. I used to use avg but when the new laptop had mcafee on it I decided to leave it until the sub expiry.

I have so many antivirus programs on my blacklist that I usually don't run them unless their premium versions - and of those, I get them for free one way or the other (usually through work, the few perks of electronic retail)

I'd prefer Avast among the freeware, just disable the really damn annoying popups and notifications and audible "I just updated myself!" alarms. MSE is also a good choice, but hasn't always caught everything in my experience.

McAfee is far from my preference but I'm sure they're aware of the issue if this happened in a recent update and are taking steps to correct it.
