The High School in Dublin got a mention in the times there on Saturday. the parents intend to sue the school because their off spring were suspended over a rave during school hours. I hope the principal stands firm. if the school wins it is good news for standards of decency in schools. if not take cover.

some of the things that went on there were no reported in the media and downright nasty, if not racist.

I find it disappointing that the paper sides with the parents.

The unfortunate thing with situations like this is that the students can break many rules but if the school lapses in procedure when handing out punishment the punishment will be deemed invalid almost no matter what happened.

What happened was nothing less than an occupation by the sounds of things. But better say no more! Don't want to prejudice anything. It maybe I have already!

The Times portrayed it as an occupation, a few students acting the clowns, harmless fun really and the school adopted draconian measures and denied the young people the right to sit their leaving cert there.

procedure does have to be followed but in cases of a critical incident some stages may surely be bypassed? it is believed that members of staff were assaulted.

the school is not saying anything, but the parents and the Times are coming out and presenting them as victims, which is unfortunate.

hopefully the department does not stick it head in the sand.

was the facebook scandal in another school resolved? did the school back down or stick to its guns?

Afaik 2 of the 4 had their expulsions revoked upon appeal with the department. So at least 2 of them got the boot.

While there is legal action being taken over this, I think we'll lock this thread.
