Stuck in a Rut (work experience advice)

Not sure if anyone can help but just wondering if anybody would have any advice for trying to gain more work experience. I suppose like everyone ended up stuck in a job with no future really and in order to get a better job I seem to be lacking work experience that I would need as the competition for you jobs is so high. Its hard to gain more work experience when the job you are currenlty working in has no more to offer.

Any courses that I would be keen on cost a fortune and to be honest money is tight and I wouldn't have the funds to spend on courses that may not benefit me. Anybody got any advice on how I should go about trying to gain work experience on my own. Even volunteer work or books I could read etc. Also its a knock to the confidence which makes every potential interview very nerve wrecking and then make a mess of it all. I want to get into a marketing executive role or similar and not sure the best way to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
