Library - Photocopying - use up your current cards!

From the start of September, a new printing and copying service will come into operation in the Library (and elsewhere in College). The new system will use electronic payments - so for example, students will be able to top up an account at a machine in a copying room, or online.

HOWEVER, current photocopying cards supplied by Kopikat will not be compatible with this system so we strongly urge you to use up these cards this month

Do you know how this might effect the photocopying cards given by the disability service?

Kind of annoying that I bought a card last month and won't need to use it again till term starts..

Try contacting Kopikat using one of the phones in the photocopying rooms or at the number listed under "Photocopying problems" on the webpage here

If they give out Kopikat cards then they won't be viable after 1st September. I'd talk to the Disability Service directly.

I presume it's possible to transfer your credits off your old cards after the changeover?

    OP implies otherwise

I can see why they would urge people to use up the cards so that they don't have to deal with refunds etc afterwards. But strictly speaking, people paid for those cards to use a service, they can't simply refuse to honour that because they want to change their system around.

As far as I am aware this will not be possible because the College photocopying and printing services will be taken over by a completely different company. My advice would be to contact Kopikat directly, using the contact details above.

Any idea how this will affect people using the library on alumni readers' cards for instance? Will we have access to an account for printing/photocopying? Seeing as we wouldn't have student numbers and so on?

Phocopying, printing and scanning will be made available to visitors to the library under the new service providers. It will be a bit like buying credit for your mobile phone, you will be asked to purchase credit and be issued with a voucher that has a PIN. Then then when you try to photocopy you will be asked for the PIN before you can make copies.

You will be able to purchase credit online, through the machines in the College or - eventually - through your mobile.

Is there a limit to the amount of pages that one can copy from a single book, or is that in violation of a copyright law?

There is indeed copyright law regarding photocopying, i believe the details are posted up on the wall of the Lecky photocopy room.

There is a copy of the Irish copyright law in every photocopying area in the Library. Library Users are obliged to adhere to the legislation.
