No it's only an Irish license. Piles of work, a lot of retail though. Some static, and if you've a good head for it there's some club work.

But you'll get the same money as stacking apples in dunnes!

Is the money fairly poor ya?What sort of hourly rate would you be looking at with a few years experience? Also I was thinking more in the line of secuity for a private company as opposed to retail.

pay rates are same as retail workers

    €9 - €11 an hour.

its very hard to get security work if you've never done it before anywhere.

door work is very dangerous and pay same.

getting in security is very hard compared to retail.

but there is work there for it if you put in the effort but hard to get

I'd have to disagree on the hard getting into it bit. Security management is my position, and I would say quite the opposite.

Most large agencies now make you sign into your contract NOT to stop anyone. So experience goes out the window. Once your a yes man with a licence they'll give you 90 flat hours over a 2 week period.

Not sure what you mean by working for a private company??

I only have a static license.

    so no doors please.

I'd be happy with retail and static (office blocks etc.)

    really appreciate the help !

If your looking for club work Galway is a great spot for it, I worked there for about 7 years for what I assume you mean "private company", you could start off on minimum wage but if your anyway good at it, it will gradually increase along with responsibility, you may even start on only one night a week so prepare to double job for a while

What do ye guys reckon are good traits for a potential security guard/bouncer?Im 22 years old 6'2 and athletic build.I'm calm in confrontational settings although I can be quiet reserved socially.

well i'm 5'10 and average build, so size doesn't really come into it, in fact, i worked with a 6'6 tank of a guy, when ever something was going on he was either nowhere to be seen or it was someone trying to prove they were as "hard" as him, i knew where to be at the right time, you must courteous and well mannered at all times especially when dealing with those who are pissed as they wont take smart comments with a pinch of salt,

Imagine getting that starting off now, sure you couldn't get that in the "boom" without at least a few months experience, there's enough lads out of work who would do it for less
