Is now a good time to buy a new car?

At this stage of the year are dealers a bit more keen to sell cars before the year is out and likely to offer a good deal by way of finance or a trade-in or are they pretty much unwilling to move as January and the new buyers is closing in?

If you are looking to buy something fairly standard, then now is a great time to buy. There are some fairly good support packages available to dealers in quarter 3 just to try and get stuff moving.

If you want something fairly specific, then a fresh order now isn't going to arrive until so late in the year that it's not worth registering it this year.

However, I was informed yesterday by a reliable source that new VRT rates are afoot for next year which will mean a price increase for everything. A quick calculation on a €40k band B car would see approx €1,000 increase :(

It would be very standard stuff alright, Mazda 2, Seat Ibiza etc....something a learner can use and that I can have bit of fun in too ;) Hopefully the VRT won't have too much of an impact.

Do dealers have any control over the finance arrangements, like term length, when the first payment is due or are the dictated to by the bank providing the finance? Cheers.

if vrt increases, would the value of older cars not increase slightly also, making the cost to change pretty much the same?
