Does a break work?

I suppose the fact that I'm asking this question would show that I probably know the answer to it already. Anyway, I'd like to get a viewpoint from a few wiser heads out there

I've been with my girlfriend for 3 years. She is a fantastic girlfriend and things are still great between us. We have great fun on nights out together and we get on great in our own company! We can have a great laugh together and she really is the girl I think I could marry!!!

But here's the thing. Recently I've been going out with my friends and watching them still living the single life and I can feel myself being a bit envious. Is this just a case of 'faraway hills are greener'? At the moment I have no problem with it really but I'm worried that when I get a little older I'll regret not having 'lived a little' while I was young. I've never lived away from home while I'm single so my single life was a case of a kiss in the nightclub and then back home.

I know I might sound like a bit of a douche saying all this when I have a brilliant girlfriend but at times I suppose the fear of regret gets to me. Thanks for reading!!

If she has any cop on... if you two go on a break. She won't be there when you get back.

You either love this girl and want to be with her forever or you want to be the same as your mates and play the field because she isn't really the one for you.

Decide soon because stringing this girl along is just plain mean.

Well stringing her along is definitely the last thing I want to do so your right there. It's just when I hear people a couple of years older than you saying they wish they'd lived more when they were younger it gets me thinking. Obviously that doesn't necessarily mean being single!

As a person who's been on the receiving end of the "I think we need a break" talk, if you really really love this girl, you wouldn't be thinking this way.

Give yourself a few weeks and think hard about this decision, if you still feel this way then break up with your gf full stop, this idea of break is disrespectful to her.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice, it sounds pretty solid! Ya at the moment I'm not seriously considering it to be honest, just wanted to get peoples views on it.

Taking a break from problems doesn't make them go away

I've never heard of one that did any good. TBH, if you cared for her at all you wouldn't put her through that. I regret to this day getting back with my now ex and no one I know ever came out the far side better from being on a break. Clean break or stay together are the only viable options.

But there are no problems. I'm just asking if there's anyone a bit older who has regretted not being single for longer while you were young.

You are being offered advice as PI/RI are forums for people who are experiencing relationship issues to get advice - is there a particular issue here that you need advice on?

No particular issue really. You can close th thread id you'd like

    Hey Kevcol,

If you don't have an issue you require advice on then I'll close the thread - just PM me/any PI mod if you change your mind and we can re-open.

If you're looking for general discussion on having regrets/getting tied down to soon kind of thing then perhaps somewhere like The Gentleman's Club would suit?

    All the very best.
