There are major road closures in the City.

There will be up to a 1m people in and around the Quays:eek:

Is there any place to go to get any decent photos does anyone know?

Maybe out around Howth on the Sunday?

    one million people?
i'd say the quays could hold maybe 100,000 people at a push...

I'll be heading down to get some shots for work on Thursday and maybe Friday depending. the whole festival extends in Grand Canal Dock too with a floating cinema located there!

I know 1 or 2 people have got media passes for this by just emailing the organisers and promising to send on some photos. Maybe its a bit late now but you could try it.

BTW I don't see any other 'Tall Ships' thread open at present - so if anyone has any Tall Ships photos - please post them.

I must go down to the sea again...:)

I suppose the best thing is be there at early hours. You can't visit them but there's a good chance of photographing the ships' crews working and after the crowd arrives... time for some candids

Wonder when they unfurled their sails- love to see a shot with one of the big ships with full sail

I was onboard a small yacht in the Bay and didn't see any serious sail being unflurled when the ships were there. One or two had top masts unfurled as they set out from Killiney Head. Perhaps they waited until further out at sea before deploying main sails.

I was already at home when I heard the news that the ships would sail to Dun Laoghaire and then back towards Howth... bit disappointed I'd love to see them to

Were any other boardsies at the party on the large Italian ship on Saturday? It was a bit on the mental side but a great laugh.

Im just looking through my pics and I dont think I took one of a ship, spent most of the 4 days at the music stage.

Was out in Dún Laoghaire harbour yesterday with thousands of others,
    Got some ok shots.
    Two photographers caught my eye.
The first one as you may see got a great spot ON the wall.
The second has what looks like a point and shoot but he looked so dedicated when taking the pics I would love to see his results.

I took an unexpected swing by the Quays very early on Sunday morning and was raging I'd forgotten my good camera. Decided to take a few snaps on my iPhone (4, not even the 4S!!) and managed to snap this little gem which I put through Instagram:
