Anyone familiar with this course id like to know what the schedule was like last year in first year.

How many hours a week and what kind of work is involved at the start?

    Cheers

I'm not familiar with it, but the timetable will change but the classes will stay relatively the same. Generally these have about 20 - 24 hours of classes and expect another 7/8 hours work outside, but realistically you may not need that much! With that said, with all coding courses - DO NOT let yourself fall behind. It'll be grand if you submit all assignments and keep up to date but if not you're dead.

In third and second year (can't remember first year!) we had around 25 hours each semester.

Don't ditch databases either, just because it's boring. In fact, don't ditch any classes AT ALL. Don't become one of those people who wastes their grant money on beer and fails everything... Seriously, I know people who have done this and regret it so much. A night out once or twice a week isn't bad if you still turn up and have your work done, just make sure you don't waste the year!

    Good luck!

That advice applies to everyone really.

Imagine how depressed you would be coming out realising you wasted years and then just stuck on the dole. While everyone else heads off abroad using there qualification to make a mint. Sad. I think people are kopping on a bit more now though.

Whats the dropout rates like now?

For every computing course they're about 30 - 50% in both 1st and 2nd year. 40 started EntSys, 7 finished this year. Fear not though! It's almost always people who shouldn't have gone near the course in the first place. There's about 4 repeaters and 1 deferral.

Software Systems Development is very similar to the IT course, in fact you,ll most likely be in the same room as them for half your subjects, you do maths until the end of 2nd year in IT though
