The car in question is a 99 toyota altezza RS200

il start from the beginning about 2 weeks ago i drove the car to town turned it off and came back about a hour later turned the key and got nothing except one load click so presumed the battery was dead but couldn't understand why so i put it down to having left the iphone charger plugged in. jump started the car and everything was grand until yesterday morning went to start the car just to hear once again the one loud click from the starter solenoid so got the booster pack and she started not a bother reached my destination only to find when i came back to the car she wouldn't start again, so i got a push start and she started no problems so i presumed my battery wasn't holding charge.got the battery checked today and it was perfect.so now im guessing its the starter motor or a bad connection somewhere along the lines.

when i turn the key i hear that one loud click from the solenoid and a humming or turning noise coming from around the starter motor but the car makes no effort to turn over.

    any help appriciated

first of all double check all battery connections especially where the earth goes to the chassis

sounds like a faulty bendix or solenoid on the starter but check the simple items first

possibly also a faulty ignition switch

EDIT just re reading your post would indicate the earth lead you are possibly by passing it while jump starting

battery leads can also corrode inside the connections
