Organised tours in Peru

Just wondering if anyone has ever been on one of the G Adventures / Intrepid tours in Peru? Would be really interested to hear thoughts, they're meant to be excellent. I've also heard that you're much better off doing Peru independently, but would it be unrealistic to follow the same itinerary as the guided tours? I would much rather do it by myself but I would want to see as much as possible in 3/4 weeks max.

I travelled with Dragoman a few years ago in Peru and a few other countries in S.America. Can highly recommend them. You're right, it is pretty easy to travel independently but we (couple) went with a tour mainly for the company of other travellers. Had done a few months on our own and just fancied travelling with some others for a while. Obviously you can meet up with other people through hostels etc. also.
It was great just to have stuff organised and booked for us for a few weeks, saved so much time trudging around with the backpack and also got us really off the beaten track for some camping which would have been impossible on our own.
There are many pros and cons to organised trips but having experienced independent travel and tours I would say both are really enjoyable and worth a shot. Don't mind the people that stick their nose up at organised tours, you're not getting any less of an experience from taking a slightly easier route, there are still loads of opportunities to meet locals and fend for yourself while on a tour!
    Good luck!
