Jesus, the way he was steering and holding the wheel you could see it coming a mile off.

That's the best advertisement ever to check the underside of a car before buying!

    it's definitely an E46 M3.

Looks like what happened was that his passenger side wheel left the road (there's a big dip between the gravel and the road as you can see in the video), which resulted in him losing steering traction and veering off the road.

Car seems to hold up quite well to the punishment! never flipping or rolling over etc.

    Thank you CSI BMW :D

I'd say the radiator, engine, gearbox, diff, bumpers steering rack etc didn't hold up quite well :D or his wrists and elbows :)

I think the fact that his front wheels were airborne into a left hander caused the problem!

yeah actually watched the video again and you're right, but I think he probably would still have been able to control the car if his passenger side wheel hadn't skidded over the edge/dip as a result of the short flight.. :)

Doesn't even look like he braked at all. I know with only the rears on the ground the braking effect would have been minimal, but still

I here this wasn't a private track either. Public park from what I heard, I think "park" might be stretching things just a tad but all the same!

Yep certainly didnt look/sound like there was an attempt at breaking pretty clueless over a blind bend.

I just couldn't have imagined the phone call.
Still at least he was alright i guess, you can see the seatbelt kept him in the car he was nearly going out the window.

Not sure if anyone seen this:

15 year old on M3 outrunning police, too bad for him that the car broke down.

Could have been a great candidate for the Darwin awards. Pity the car didnt do a few rolls as well. Natural selection must have been taking a nap.

His driving position + style reminds me of someone in the mid 1990s playing Ridge Racer

Ah that one. Research it a bit more, the M3 didnt break down and its not supercharged, the US commentator makes up a load of BS. The scene at the end of the M3 stopping is actually a splice of the scene where the drivers hits the brakes near the overpass earlier on.

For TV sakes they make it out that "you cant outrun the law" however the reality is that Camaro is utterly pants vs the old M3. He got away however his dad rang the cops to turn him over the next day. Its quite annoying how they lied about the footage and eventing their own TV friendly, pro-American auto ending.

Next you'll be telling us the tyre screech noises were added in post production

It's a public road, but in a National Park.

I know exactly where this is, and know people who cycle and hike up there.

Shame the driver was able to walk away imo.

    Agreed!

Pkiernan you've never driven a bit over zealously when you were younger? We've all made mistakes, it's just unfortunate/irresponsible for this young guy to be driving such a powerful car at this age. I'm sure he will have taken a lot away from the crash and will drive with a little more caution the next time he blasts down an unfamiliar road.

That kid is lucky he had the window down - would got a nice hefty crack off the side of his head otherwise. Natural Selection must've been lagging behind that day :)

good point from whovever made it about the window being down, god knows what would have happened if it was up...

Why don't you tell your BS to my friend who was knocked off his bicycle on that very road by a muppet motorist? He was lucky to escape with a broken collar bone.

How would you feel if this driver hit your wife/mother/child at those speeds?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭air

He doesn't seem to be going massively fast for the severity of the corner but it's notoriously difficult to judge speed on wide angle GoPro footage.

Would something with more suspension travel have given him a better chance of maintaining contact with the road on a corner like this where the suspension gets unloaded? I'd be inclined to think so.

Reduced suspension travel means the crest transfers a greater upward impulse to the car and when in the air the suspension has less "reach" to stay in touch with the road.

Albeit the last part of my theory relies on lowered suspension having reduced travel in both directions, is this the case?
Either way I'm sure he learned his lesson!
