Walking along North Wall Quay about 30 minutes ago and saw the fire brigade launching their rescue boat and heading off pdq in the direction of the port.

Actual emergency or an exercise in advance of the tall ships arriving I don't know.

However the question struck me, as it often has before, why is the boat on North Wall Quay? Would it not be much better to have a dedicated jetty on Georges Quay, adjacent to Tara St station? Is it a matter of cost or are there other reasons?

Also, does it also mean a fire tender is unnecessarily tied up parked on NWQ just to transport personnel (although I assume a transit van would be used if the tender wasn't required)?

Apparently ( as per the news media ) there was an incident at Hanover Quay - 15 year old in critical condition as a result.
