You have to apply to SUSI https://www.grantsonline.ie/eseries/
in order to have your student contribution fees paid (€2250) , you will not receive any portion of the maintenance grant if you are in receipt of BTEA.

I would apply today as there will be backlogs as this is the first year that this department is looking after all the new applications. Once you have applied print of the confirmation and show it to your college to show that you are in the Que.

You will need a statement from SW which you can request from here https://www.welfare.ie/EN/ContactUs/Pages/jajbstatement.aspx
and P21 from revenue if you have had any taxable income in 2011 call your local office to request.
You will also need confirmation that you have been resident in Ireland for 3 of the past 5 years, bank statements, rent book, SW records, payslips etc

All good advice, but 1 small point- if you need a social welfare statement SUSI tell you to download form from
    http://www.cdvec.ie/getattachment/Student-Supports/Grants/Social-Welfare-Statement-2012.pdf.aspx
and take it into the social welfare office to be filled and stamped. I'm not sure if the statement from www.welfare.ie is accepted and anyway, you'll be waiting weeks for it. You'll need p45s or p60 for any jobs you did in 2011, as well as a p21 statement.

    I'd recommend registering at
    http://www.ros.ie/paye/launchPAYEanytime_en.html
you can download P21, and claim any tax back for the last 5 years you might have overpaid. I got a nice few quid back i wasn't expecting.

I have used this statement for the past 3 years without issue from the Co Council and usually takes a week to be posted. Still if your local SW office will complete it on the spot fair play as I try to avoid mine like the plague.

Did you request your social welfare statement at the welfare.ie website or over the phone?

I think I'm gonna have to brave the queue in the social, they don't seem to respond to online requests at our local office, it's been 4 weeks now. I'll take a book and a flask of tea. smile.gif

I requested it online, I am going in to third year in Uni and have all ways done it like that for the Grant and another one for the Student Assistance Fund. Usually request it very early in the year so I have it ready for posting as soon as my Grant renewal forms arrive.

I have a few books I could offer to keep you busy while you wait ;) Microbiology anyone ?

Not too bad, 10 minutes wait and left with the form filled and signed, was lucky too, I was due to sign on today but had forgotten all about it.
What is the student assistance fund? I just googled it and it looks promising. Is it given out on a first come basis, or to the most needy?

Student Assistance Fund is distributed through your college, In UL closing date is December and payment usually March. There is a pot of money and it is paid out depending on your circumstances. Keep receipts for Books, food, rent and any other living expenses. Anyone I know who received it usually got between €200 and €500, it does not take a whole lot to apply and is greatly needed when received. Ask your Access office in college for details and application form.

sorry for hijacking your thread mate.

i have applied for BTEA last month and am waiting on a reply. i have been told to apply for a grant to pay the student contribution. i got a letter from the co. dublin VEC to say that my grant is up for re-assessment (as i previously got a grant from them for a previous year of my course) and told me to fill out the re-assessment form that was included.

my question is should i fill out this form they gave me to apply for the grant to get my fees paid or should i apply at: SUSI https://www.grantsonline.ie/eseries/

    cheers

If you have previously been in receipt of a grant and you are progressing up the levels then you need to do the re-assessment through the VEC, only "new" applicants have to apply to the SUSI.
Did you receive BTEA for your previous year of study?
