I noticed that as of yesterday, Nikki Hayes' show from 9.45 to 12.45 on weekdays is simulcasting on both 1038 and SW with generic jingles being used. I actually think it's a great idea by SPIN to save money and the fact that Hayes used to work on 2FM and therefore, nationally, listeners in the SW wont feel alienated by the change.

Disappointing to see the likes of this happen. Happened with iradio a while back too and see's a lot of people put out of work as a result.

Would've thought that Spin (especially Dublin one) was doing alright.

wouldnt they need BAI approval to do this?

The BAI will do all they can to prevent a station going to the wall, so something like this would get approved with the smallest of fights

I'm surprised that SPIN SW has survived for so long given the appalling quality of broadcasting on that station. SPIN 1038, the big brother of the two stations, is just making this move to try and keep SW afloat. Also, the fact that Nikki Hayes will already be known to most listeners, it's quite a seamless change. 1038 recently improved their RAJAR listenership so they wouldn't appear to be having any problems. Capital (in the UK) only have regionally specialised shows at Breakfast and Drivetime on weekdays and the rest of their schedule is a national one with the likes of Rich Clarke, James Barr etc. broadcasting to the whole of the UK, so this move by SPIN isn't wholly unusual, although I'm aware they're not a national.

I noticed this a few weeks ago and thought at first that it was a once off or something they were doing for the week while one of their presenters was on holiday, but according to their website it's permanent.

This doesn't really come to a surprise seeing as they started syndicating the news from Dublin a few months ago. Interestingly in the new morning generic Spin show, there are references made to the south west, I'm assuming these go out in Dublin too?

I know why they are doing it but still it's sad to see it happening. As already pointed out their bland news also comes from Dublin.

As a national DJ Nikki's show is probably the best choice for this.

Good cost saving moves.....sad to see.

It won't be the last to to this.. I can see UTV following suit. Strawberry Alarm Clock and the AK phone show are strong candidates for syndication across their network

Tis a sad thing to see,

It will probably be a hard show to do without mentioning SPIN 1038 / SPIN Sw and without plugging other shows and or text line, and what if there is a competition on her show how will she give out a text line / facebook / or twitter.

The news they get a way with by sayin check out our website for more.. but how will they get away with send us a text .. you know the number.. unless they get a generic text like 087711SPIN

I'd say it wont be long before more shows are simulcast on both stations

Also I wonder is she getting paid more for it?

Wouldnt say your average punter cares too much if the Ten hits in a row are played out from Dublin or Tralee

In a related question (costcutting :) ), have Spin shut down their 102.9 relay for Killarney? It was dead on Monday when I was behind (just a patchy signal from Kilkeaveragh), and all I can pick up at home right now is a very weak signal (presumably Kilkeveragh)

I suppose there was separate ads?
This is the start of networking and what killed UK ILR. Its sad to see it go this way.
I'd say Spin will need to invest in new networking software (Genesys, Myriad Network) for seamless commercials, split links and custom jingles for each station played at the same time.

The phoneshow is very Dublin oriented but it might work. I doubt the alarm clock will be networked. I could possibly see Limerick today axed and Neil Prenderville networked on Live 95. ++ Could we see 96 and 103 going back together for networking??

I can't see them axing Limerick Today to be honest. The morning "county" shows on all the ILRs are usually quite popular in the ratings, and if they replaced it with music and syndicated AK at night, I'd doubt it'd do them any good.

Considering the 96 & 103 licences are expiring next year, seeing the start of syndication would be a bad start, although I don't see anyone bidding against them for their licence.

They have some generic jingles played between songs for example "this is spin - the most must station " or 10 sipn hits in a row with nikki hayes"..

but they also have custom jingles like on spin sw they have " most music station spin sw" and they have the same liner on 1038. the commercials are also different.

I think, and have listened to both stations and only that I know the show is being simulcast you wouldn't know the difference.

I'd always listen to Nikki in Dublin but I do a fair bit of travel with work so I was surprised to hear her down in the SW too this morn. Thought she was gone from Spin Dublin until I googled 'Nikki Hayes Spin South West' and came across this.

To be honest it's been done so well I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't decide to google it! Haven't heard any Southwest references in Dublin and then today I didn't hear any Dublin references in the SW. Most of the jingley bits say Spin SW too. I'm guessing they have some fancy split transmission system that allows them to do this?

The RCS system allows a split system for ads, sweepers and specific links.
