I'd also be interested in peoples replies to this.

I'm definitely being allowed to repeat my exams, but I did CAP 1 so if I don't pass them I wont be kept on because I won't be able to qualify within the 3.5 years :(

    Take a read of this.

Look, it's harsh... but it is the nature of the game. I know one particular chap who worked with the Big4 and got let go. He got another job in industry with 2 months, and went on to qualify.

I would never say in an interview that you got let go. Some understand, some don't. I would say it was by mutual agreement and that you were looking for this new opportunity.

Ultimately, we are all human. What do you do? You pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and you move on. That's life.

Unfortunately the way the big4 work is that everybody is perfect.

Sh*t buzz dude. I feel for you.
But if you have exams and part qualified you are more hireable, so its not the end of the world. You can move to acca and qualify in your own time.

Most people that got fired from my firm are now in other jobs and are much much happier than at big 4. Which makes me wonder why I am there!

Also that article made my day. Laughed my ass off!

You use all the clients you have worked on and send them your cv kindly stating your lookin to move on! All from your personal email but!

+1 on that article, very funny. wonder what the guy is doing now?

He's spot on about those corporate phrases, anyone with an ounce of cynicism just ignores them.

OP - think it depends on what your longer term goals are. If your only priority is to get qualified then advice from last two contributers is spot on, big4 is not the be all. It's only a brand name that you can put on your cv that signals to prospective employers what skills & competencies you have. There are plenty of other ways of doing this without big4 qualification. Best of luck in the repeats

I can't imagine it would be easy to get into one Big Four after having been let go from another mid-contract - and would you really want to, anyways? If you got a poor rating with your current firm, chances are that a similar role in another Big Four firm wouldn't suit you, either.

I'm in a similar position myself - well, I could probably have sat the CAP2 repeats in October if I'd wanted to, but I'm choosing not to.

I'm planning on moving into industry and sitting the rest of the exams through ACCA. There seems to be quite a few jobs around at the moment and I've been offered some interviews already, and I'm on very good terms with the managers in my office so I'll get a good reference, so I'm not too worried about being left without a job.

It looks very good to have a Big Four firm on your CV for any length of time. Anyone I know who's left mid-contract has not had much trouble getting a new job (usually in industry and on much better money), and they are all well on their way to qualifying at this stage, but they'll now have much more diverse experience on their CV once they qualify.

I would think it would be unlikely that they won't give you a shot at the repeats anyways - I've never heard of that happening. Wouldn't it be a breach of contract, on their part? It's not ideal having to repeat, but the general rule in those firms is that you can repeat the exams, so long as you'll still be finished all exams within the length of your contract ... you'll have to pay for the repeats yourself, most likely, and you won't get much/any paid study leave, so it's not like it's costing them a lot for it.
