Service History on ex-rental

I'm looking at a couple of ex-rentals (Mondeo 08) - can't get documented service histories for them - tried ringing the rental company but they won't release any information to me saying the current seller (a dealer) should have the service details - he doesn't.

Should this be a deal breaker?

Generally, is buying ex-rentals a good or bad thing?

Buying any car without a service history is a mistake, ex rentals even more so.

You'll have no trouble finding a 2008 Mondeo with a full history.

Personally I would not touch a ex rental, when not being abused by customers they are caned by the rental company.

If the rental car was bought back by the dealer that initially supplied and serviced it then they should have the service history on their system. If a different dealership bought the ex-rental from rental company or at auction then chances are they didn't service it and the service documents are missing or lost.

Try and find out who the dealer was that initially sold/leased the car to the rental company. I would also ring the main dealers of the make of car in the county it was originally registered it and see if it is on their computer system, ie if it is a WX reg Toyota then ring the Toyota dealers in Wexford. Chances are it could have been originally supplied and serviced locally.

+1 on avoiding them. I worked for Enterprise and most of the cars got little or no attention. You could take your chances but the deal would really need to reflect it's history as a rental.
