I know it is probably very simple but can anyone tell me how to do it?

On the Profile menu, View Profile.
At the bottom of the box on the left (where you have your name, job, education etc.), you should see a public profile link.
That's the link you need to use.

Do you mind me asking why you want to do this?

I would also question wisdom of this
LINKEDIN can connect you to your social networking (twitter & FB) and all email contacts - abit of reverse engineering and potential employers could have a field day....

If you are careful not to link your linked in profile it can be very useful for employers?

I'm currently looking for a new job and I'm getting more companies and recruiters contacting me through my linkedin profile than from things like monster.ie and the likes.

You just need to treat Linkedin as a business only thing and keep it away from things like Facebook. Why would you want to link those anyway?

    How though?

Surely your cover letter and CV should contain everything the employer needs to know about you to get an interview.

Maybe I am misunderstanding. Apologies if I am being a dope.

LinkedIn gives you the opportunity to represent your professional self more thoroughly than just a static 2 page doc file. Some examples:
    • The employer can find out more about your current and past companies on LinkedIn - their size, industry, who works for them, etc.
    • The employer can see recommendations made by current and past colleagues / friends / customers / manager
    • The employer can potentially notice shared connections that might increase the level of trust, knowing that you are in the same network

The first thing I do when I get a resume is check their LinkedIn profile.

That is interesting, particularly the employer can potentially notice shared connections that might increase the level of trust, knowing that you are in the same network. That alone could really increase your chance of getting the job.

    Thanks.

I have a linkedin profile but don't have it on my cv. I also have difficulty keeping my cv below 2.5 pages so would you guys suggest adding my linkedin profile so employers can get a fuller idea of my career etc?

Personally I wouldn't include a link to mine on my CV.

In my case there'd be no point, because my Linkedin profile only includes the same information as my CV - I don't have any recommendations there, or any particularly impressive connections.

But, even if I did, I still wouldn't see the point in including a link on my CV. As someone mentioned above, it's very likely they'll search for your profile themselves anyways - it's not hard to find someone on Linkedin, once you have their name and their most recent position. I know that any agencies I've dealt with in the past have added me on Linkedin quite soon afterwards.

Obviously I don't have my Linkedin linked to my Facebook page (not that there's anything dodgy there anyways!)

I updated my Linkedin profile over the weekend, and have been approached by two interested agencies since. I'm currently job-seeking, and would rather deal directly with companies than with agencies, but it's a start! :)

Yeah had a few agencies approach me just from my linkedin profile which is good I guess

I think it's a good idea, provided that it actually has more detail than your CV does, otherwise it seems a bit pointless.

I'm finding that I have to be very selective of what goes on my CV so it's not too long. I can use LinkedIn to expand on more duties, specific projects, awards etc.
