you'll owe them 6 once it goes past 8pm the following day after using it.

If you want to get rid of it then go pay another €3, ring them up, tell them what happened and quote them the number off the second payment receipt. they'll allocate it and the fine etc will be gone.

That's something my colleagues thought with their German and Dutch reg cars. Till they got a bill, some in 4 digits kindly asking them to pay the toll and the fines. They were basically hunted down back to the country of registration. So yes, I'd advise you to pay.

We all know the scam that is Eflow.......they give you until 8pm the next day to pay the toll.....everybody knows that the longer you give someone to pay a bill the greater chances they will forget....Hence the TV deals.."pay nothing for 30 days and return for full refund minus p+p"..how many people have now been stuck paying for crap they didnt want..

Do you want them to put tolls booths back on the road or do you want the time limit reduced to an hour after you cross to pay? There are monster signs warning you to pay and it's simple and free to set up a video account so you don't have to worry about it.

It's not eflow's fault people can't remember to pay on time and the penalty isn't too bad if you pay within 14 days

UK cars you do, i forgot to pay for 2 months and it was only €6. Doesnt increase like Irish cars but they will contact the DVLA and will send you the bill in you dont pay.

Not that simple to setup a video account if you have an account outside of the state. I think you need an Irish Bank card (or at least you did when I looked into it last year)

Penalty isn't too bad? 100% penalty after 25 hours is something I'd consider a stiff penalty. €3 is a daft price too. €1.80 will take you all the way to Limerick at 120kph, M50 is now widened and they reduced the limit. Bunch of plonkers.
If I had a UK reg car, I wouldn't bother. Let the letters come!

Our Northern motoring brethren are playing ducks and drakes with our toll charge system. Only a few of them bother to pay.

    Hi all,

If anyone would like assistance, I'm standing by.

All vehicles passing through the M50 toll are liable for toll charges (except exempt vehicles and motorbikes).

The best option for the occasional user is the free Video Registration a/c. Tolls are discounted by €0.50 per toll, there are no payment deadlines, no fines for late payment, payments are taken automatically and the account covers multiple vehicles. There are no fees on this a/c - i.e. setup, management, annual nor monthly fees. So, if you use the M50 toll rarely, setup this a/c online at www.eflow.ie. Use the Post Paid (Bill Pay) option. eFlow accepts VISA, Mastercard, ROI Laser or ROI Direct Debit Plus (no mandate needed). eFlow also offers a Tag a/c which covers all ROI tolls.

Another option is to Pre-Pay for your tolls. You can do this via the website https://csc.eflow.ie/myaccount/payUTT.aspx Prepayments can be taken over the phone by talking to an agent or by automated system between the hours of 11pm and 7am. Payments can also be made at Payzone outlets. To find your nearest Payzone check this link: www.payzone.ie
Please double check your receipt and hold onto it as proof of payment.

Hope this helps, for specific information, you can PM me or Ciaran.

    John

    Hi John,
Any chance of making a few changes to the website to reflect this information a little more clearly? I find the website isn't explaining everything correctly. Pre-pay for example links you to a post pay site, and I wasn't sure if it's OK to register on the post-pay for myself using the M50 the following day.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 121 ✭✭eFlow: John

    Hi Tea,

It is ok to Pre-Pay with this option https://csc.eflow.ie/myaccount/payUTT.aspx

I understand exactly what you say about the website. We are working on a new site which should be up and running soon.

    Thanks for the response,

    John

Why would you pay if you have an english reg car?
No one I know from the North pays and there is nothing ever done to them.

    Take advantage of your situation!

I had a northern reg for a while.

Forgot to pay a few times.

Got a 140euro fine in the post (to my parents northern address to where the car was registered).

As far as I know they can now track the owner of the vehicle if it has a UK reg. This wasn't always the case.

I have had over 2 grand of fines sent to my address up north on a previous northern reg car, it was a few journeys I did not pay for, but not more than 20 in total. I got my folks to keep all the letters together unopened (after the 1st few) then I just posted them all back to the debt collection agency, there was about 200 letters in total. Never heard anything more after that. Debt collectors are illegal in Northern Ireland so there isnt really much the London based firm charged with reclaiming the money can do.

I now pay the M50 toll just so that I dont get phone calls from the folks complaining about the letters!

And lol at these people who say that nothern regs dont pay in general, to be honest it shows more characteristics of the people you have contact with than it does toll avoidance. I have a number of work collegues who have yellow regs and have toll tags, and my family would always pay the toll when they cross it. Whereas my friends, and in the past myself, are younger and have a lot less respect for another countries unenforcable toll charges.

Sorry, there may well be plenty of payzone shops in the dublin area willing to take eflow , but for those of us down the country there isnt. even shops with payzone dont bother with it as they only get 6c to process the €6 transaction and it literally isnt worth their while to do it.

i seriously doubt the DVLA can give out details to a foreign toll operator due to the Data Protection Act (etc)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,261 ✭✭✭mgbgt1978

The DVLA will give out details to anybody who is willing to pay the fee.
They will even give details to the UK private clamping companies (for a fee).

I've been through the toll a number of times in the past few years. Only got my first bill the other day. It is on eFlow headed paper. I've no idea how they got my details. Is this a breach of data protection on the part of DVLNI?

Is there something new in place whereby details are now shared across the border?

You can be fined now with a NI reg.

    Pay up from now on.

Ok, so when did this come in? Is there some sharing in place between DVLNI and eFlow?

    Hi All,

All vehicles passing through the M50 toll are liable for toll charges (except exempt vehicles and motorbikes).

For anyone one that travels on the M50 I would recommend they set up a video account. It has automatic payment and you get a 50c discount on the toll.

Trips can also be paid online on https://csc.eflow.ie/myaccount/payUTT.aspx . Payments can be taken over the phone by talking to an agent or by automated system between the hours of 7am and 11pm. Payments can also be made in any payzone outlet in the country, a list of payzone shops can be found here www.payzone.ie .

Hope this helps, for specific information, you can PM me, John or Keith .

I pay on demand with my Toll Tag.
I drive through; it beeps, money taken from account, job done.
Sometimes it does not read, the fine arrives, call them with Tag number, fine cancelled, tbh straight forward enough.

I think you mean another jurisdiction rather than another country. All of this ignoring thing is fine until you subsequently want loans, mortgages etc and you have a long record of not paying debts. Although perhaps given peoples stupidity in taking out loans in recent years it is perhaps all to the good that they have a bad credit score.
