Windows 8 - side by side configuration is incorrect

Has anybody else come across this problem in Windows 8? There are a number of program's that will no longer start, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Flight Simulator, any other game, all display the message "The Application has failed to start because it's side by side configuration is incorrect..." It happened pretty suddenly…

Has anybody else come across this problem in Windows 8? There are a number of program's that will no longer start, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Flight Simulator, any other game, all display the message "The Application has failed to start because it's side by side configuration is incorrect..."

It happened pretty suddenly tonight, I had been using chrome earlier just fine, the changed my eyefinity profile and now most of the program's wont work. I can't change my display settings either without it throwing up the same error.
