My wife had a wee spill today, she is fine, bike is fine, but she landed on her garmin watch. The glass shattered, and there are a few marks on the strap. Does anyone know of anywhere that can fix the glass, or should I just try a jewellers?

    Thanks,

Couple of lads over on the Watches & Timepieces forum have used here to good results. Your generally looking at about 40 euros to replace a watch crystal (more or less depending if it was acrylic/plastic or glass). You'll get better answers in the watch forum though...

It's of no use in your wife's current predicament, but I've wondered in the past whether a protective layer on the screen of the likes of a Garmin would be worthwhile. I'm thinking of something like ScreenGuardz by Bodyguardz - I have one of those on my phone's screen and it has done a good job of keeping the screen free of scratches when I'm carrying it in a bag or a pocket. It might not help much in a hard impact though, although I guess it wouldn't hurt either, but it should help prevent scratches or scrapes in a less damaging fall from the bike.

That site sells versions for a number of Garmin devices (including the Edge 800 so it obviously works with touchscreen devices) but not the Forerunner range, but in reality you could buy one for a similar sized device and cut the sheet to size.

I should just try it as I have a spare protective sheet for my phone which might be large enough to fit my Edge 705, but that would take effort. So... lazy...! Of course a proper test of the protector's usefulness would require me to take a header off the bike and while the lazy side of me would appreciate any opportunity to lie down, even on the road, the process of getting there doesn't appeal much.

Try Garmin, they replaced a 305 for me after i had it for 3 years and had an electric problem, They may not do that for you but it might be worth a try.

as far as i know garmin dont sell spares, you have to send it back to garmin to get it fixed as i found out when i dropped my edge 500 and the glass cracked - not enough to make it unuseable so i just live with it
