Caddy has no power since hitting flood

As the title says. I drove into a flood last week and after a few splutters I thought the van was driving fine. But ever since the van has a serious loss of power. Drive perfectly until I need to overtake or climb a hill.
Anyone have any idea what I'm after doing to the van? And more importantly is it easy to fix?

    It's a1.9tdi old model 04 vw caddy

Open the back doors, probably a few thousand litres of water in there...that would do the trick.

Seriously tho.... You may just have sodden your air filter and hence reduced airflow, diesels don't like that.

I checked the air filter and its fairly damp alright but I didnt think it was too bad. I might just bring it inside tonight and try to get it dry.

Replace it.... If it's wet it's going to be hard suck through
Also it might be worth taking the air box out of it in case there's a slug of water in there at a low point...have a look anyway.
It's also possible your maf got damaged but do the filter first.

... might be serious damage if the engine ingested water. Damp filter is very bad sign.

Agree with the above, if your filter is wet that's very bad as it means that water got into your intake.

The lack of power may well be caused by hydrolock damage, i.e slightly(as its still running) bent conrods.

Hopefully you just shorted some sensors or wiring putting it in "limp mode". A VW diagnostics check will tell you.

Does the power suddenly fall off at about 2000 rpm?

    +1 ^^^^

With the filter being wet and all, that is a very bad omen. If I was to bet money on it I would say hydrolock damage. I would strongly advise to stop driving straight away as running with a bent rod (thus unaligned pistons) will shag up your cylinders big time. Damage is proably already done there thought if it was driven any distance

A second hand replacement engine is probably what you'll end up doing though
Given the wet filter, it would be a stroke of sheer luck if you got away with shorted sensors or similar, but certainly do rule it out first.

once that's checked you could do a rough check for hydrolock damage by doing some sort of depth measurements through the injector holes. Confirm by removing the head.

My gut tells me this will not yeild good news

That's exactly it. Power drops of at 2250 revs. Other than that it drives perfectly. I had no choice only to drive it for work and did over 200 miles with no problems only the drop in power if I was overtaking or a hill in a rush.
Will bring to get a diagnostic done the weekend. I'll let ye all know.
    Thanks lads.

Be worth disconnecting your MAF sensor.
There will be an electric plug just after your airbox... Unplug it and see if it improves things. (temp fix tho)
