Hi lads, been doing a bit of research on this, but couldnt find out much.

Problem: When downloading a file (using different programs to do so) my wireless keyboard becomes unusable, as it it could take 10 times hitting a key, before the key that was pressed registers. Also noticed this when streaming a video from youtube.

Hardware: The keyboard in question is a logitech wave (expenisve) The wireless mouse has no problems at all.

Tried: My PC is fairly good spec, as in quad core, 8 gig RAM, etc. Its not CPU ususage thats causing it either. I have checked this.

Can anyone help me on this? It would save me having to plug in a usb keyboard in ever time I want to type, when downloading something, which is a right pain in the behind.

    Thanks

    Maybe:

    Virus checker
    or
    External HDD on same USB

    Wild guesses.

Have you checked the latest drivers from logitech? Is it compatible with your OS?

I had a bluetooth keyboard and mopuse but it was only compatible with Vista, I had the same issue as you and had to get rid as they were not compatible with 7. Tried all the updates from Logitech but never worked.

And the problem does not occur with a wired keyboard?

Network wired or WLAN. If WLAN change the channel of the router.

Thanks for the replies so far, and no, the the house isn't haunted :D

The PC is connected indirectly (via homeplugs) to router so its not wireless.

There must be some tech reason that this is happening, its bugging the crap out of me :)

My money is still on RF interference.

Powerline, HomePlugs and gaming: eight things you should know
It turns out PLC adaptors produce RF interference

Got an ethernet cable long enough, just to test with a "proper" connection? ;)

Cool thanks Torqay, I might just give that a go.

The Kyb receiver is a good 5 meters from the homeplug though?

Any other machines networked? Try a transferring a large file to the computer and see if you get the same effect with heavy traffic.

The article mentions 20 reported cases in the UK of Comtrend PLC adapters interfering with wireless mice or keyboards.

    Could be your router.

    I've a LinkSys WRT54G with DD-WRT Firmware.

In the Wireless --> Advanced Settings page, there's a setting for "Bluetooth Coexistence Mode", with the options Enabled, Disabled and Preemption.

So I'd recommend having a look around the "wireless" settings of your router and see if there's any mention of a bluetooth setting.

Oh if there is a minority, I would be sure on that list  Im downloading a file at@.5 mbps and it seems to have no issues with the keyboard. Only seems to happen when the BB is near max download speeds?

@ CreepingDeath - I have the bog standard Eircom Zyxel Broadband Router, had a look around the settings, couldnt find mention regarding bluetooth devices.

Now that I know homeplugs can interfere, I found this:

    Hi all,

I recently purchased several Zyxel PLA401 Homeplug adapters.

For anyone considering this, be aware that the device creates a lot of RF interference for the wireless devices that operate around or in the 27 MHz bandwidth, such as a lot of wireless mice and keyboards. Bluetooth devices or others working in the 2.4 GHz band are not affected -- i have some 2.4 GHz mice and they work ok.

When the PLA401 is used, especially at speeds above 1 MB/s (which is not a lot), it jams the wireless mouse/keyb transmissions. The power/mains lines become antennas emitting on the whole spectrum of about 2 to 30 MHz. Of course, this all depends on the distance between the mains lines (both the ones within your walls and the ones in the room from extension cables, etc) and the mouse/keyb or the wireless receiver but I am unlucky enough to have the outlet where the PLA401 is plugged in right next to my desk. When the PLA401 is operating, I have to keep the wireless receiver at less than 30 cm in order for the mouse to work smoothly.

I thought this heads up might help others considering this product or other products in the Zyxel PLA4xx family as they all use the same transceiver. I tested 4 of these and they all behave the same. There were other users reporting the same problem:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833181036
    (search for "interference")
    <SNIP> (search for "interference")

I wrote to Zyxel about this and shall post their answer here. This issue may explain the "alarmingly" low price of this product (Homeplugs of 200 Mbps are usually much more expensive)

    Cheers

Now you should find out the frequency of your Logitech Wave, apparently they have 27 MHz and 2.4 GHz devices in that range.
