    HI
I was just wondering if all the ACCESS/HEAR students are allowed to attend orientation? My daughter got a call today and it seemed to indicate that she may not attend, but she really wants to! I know there's probably loads of others who don't or can't attend, but will she be able to go if she wants? We live in a different county so would be really helpful just to find her feet around the college and get to know a few people. Thanks

thats a bit confusing. As Orientation week, the week before classes start is supposed to be for all first year. ACCESS/HEAR students get the chance to attend extra orientation before this, where they stay on campus, get shown around and meet other people.

I could be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure, firstly that its compulsory for student on the access programme to attend a separate orientation for a few days, before the actual universities orientations week.
The access programme, as far as I'm aware run their own orientation so those students can find their bearings in the college even before the rest of the first years start. So, in that sense the orientation programme run for all first year students may seems a little repetitive. But, your daughter will still be asked to attend the universities orientation week, i mean attendance isn't taken so if she's not there. . nobody will be any the wiser, but it is beneficial because it'll be her first chance to meet people on her course and meet some of her lecturers, take tours etc etc etc. Basically, she would be encouraged to attend both :)

Grand, she's no problem attending whatever is on to try and get to know a few people. She was just a little worried that she may not be allowed attend. Hopefully she'll get a package of info in the next few days.

I dont think she has much to worry about in that respect, friends of mine last year attended both with no trouble :)

Yeah I went to both! You're kind of expected to go to both! The president gives his address to all the first years in the Helix and there's also a mini-concert there, so it's quite good!

The access one is brilliant, you get to stay on campus for 4 days, free of charge, and take part in various activities. Most of my college friends now, I met at the access orientation.
