When am I safe from dry socket?

Hey so as per another thread I had I got a wisdom tooth (upper left) out last wednesday and have been careful. No alcohol, smoking, soft diet for first few days, light rinsing with salt and water after meals, generally just taking it handy on the teeth.

I have read after the fourth day should be safe from dry socket. I have had no pain since extraction, finished penicillin anti biotics course this afternoon. I am starting back rugby training this evening and just want to be sure i will be ok playing, should be mostly fitness related so no contact work this evening but want to be careful, will be wearing a gum shield but anything I should be keeping an eye on?

Basicallly am I safe enough from a dry socket as now 5 days since extraction and no issues thus far?

youre not safe until a weeks time really, and with rugby pushing and shoving could knock a clot out so be careful with excersise such as bending and lifting as this is positive and negative pressure, even sucking through a straw which is what one could be likely to do..good luck

I would take every precaution neccesary if i was you. I had it before myself and my god it hurts! Luckily it only took the dentist about a minute to sort it out when i eventually went back to her, but it was a particularly unpleasant bank holiday weekend!

Well eight days on and I am fine, I did train a few days ago but was mostly running, no contact work so that helped. Flying tomorrow but dentist did specifically say would be fine to fly as enough time has passed (9 days). All good.

reading about death from it will not help you. Mine was upper left wisdom and was painless enough. Tooth was cracked, bit decayed, crooked root also. Felt no pain, plenty of pressure but dentist knew I was not great with pain and helped with breaks when needed and put me at ease. I didnt mind the pressure much, I just dont like pain in my teeth.

You should not be feeling a lot of pain during the procedure I think. Injections should sort that out. If not get more injections.
    Christmas....I think your overthinking this.

    Totally
