Hi, I have problems with HP 9000 series laptop. when staring up, screen is blank, nothing at all, when connect to external monitor, none comes up.

BUT ... sometimes when leaving for good while, screen comes up, and laptop works perfectly, sometimes, when switch on, it comes up straight away, but most of times need wait... around 30 min, sometimes longer, to screen come up.

What could be problem? And where to get fixed.

    Thanks.

Used to get in a load dv9000 with a similar problem.

Take out the RAM and try one at a time in different slots. One of the sticks / ports could be dirty / faulty.

Could be that you just have to reseat them, too.

Usually GPU failure with the 8xxx series cards shows sympthoms of failure before fully failing. Usually artefacts/corrupted graphics on the screen that will mirror on an external display, I don't think these GPUs typically just die like this, but it's worth investigating all the same

Does anything appear, like the HP logo at the startup?

Any blinking LEDs when it's not showing anything on the screen?

all leds on. no flashing though. hard drive LED not on, no flashing l. when connected to to mains, led on, but after 20 sec it goes off, even if it without battery, connected to mains, fan working, leds on , on top is on. CAP key LED not goes on when pressed.

Sounds like the GPU is on it's way out, then. Lot of times that's what had happened in the dv9000 ones I had in with nVidia cards.

During the times it would boot up, did it run fine or would it power off randomly?

when booted, was fine, no bother, today wont boot up at all, none any sign on screen, nothing on external.

What you and Duggy747 said. Looks like GPU failure, only real solution is to have the GPU reballed

Funny is that I had a DV9000 in this evening, with several issues, one of them with no video at all from the LCD and badly ghosted / corrupted output on an external monitor
