    Hello again,
Just looking for tips and preferences form those of you who shoot Vermin with a .22lr.
What brands provide the tightest groups?
Hollow point v round nose bullets for greater impact?
I'm thinking hollow point would be far better killing power as round nose wouldn't expand?
Also who would you recommend that stock several brands of ammo and posts them?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paddy.

I use Sub sonic for my 22LR they cost me € 13.50 per 100 no one is going to post ammo to you so you need to produce you Licence when buying you must have some Gun shops around your area.

This is not true. Plenty of places will post ammunition.

I'm not looking for illegal ammunition, obviously they will need a copy of my licence or an emailed photo of it.
Local lads only have one or two brands. I want to try several brands to determine the best choice for my rifle.

Cant beat the federal bulk pack if youve just gotten a .22 fire it like f*ck from all different positions, accuracy wise its nothing special but good for practising! Remington yellow hackets high velocity is very popular aound here I used to like the cci stingers, never really liked the subsonics it was hard enough to get close to greys!

What part of Clare are you in? If you're close to the Limk border, there's quite a few places down here can get you whatever you want (legally) :D

I do a nice bit of vermin control with my 22lr and i find the CCI 40gr hollow points very good, they group good & feed good.
    • Don't use round nose for vermin control!
Sportsden.ie are good to deal with for ammo online.

I have used Lapua subs, Winchester SuperX subs + HV, Federal Bulk packs and Remington Yellow jackets.
I find the Winchester SuperX Subs the best for all around use.
Any of the HV stuff doesn't group that well, I always get a lot more flyers than with Subs.

I've it well broken in now and I'm finding closer groups than I was getting with the same ammo.
We find Remington ammo useless, maybe 4 will group then you get a flyer up to 2 inches away.
Speaking of high velocity, I was really surprised with the grouping of American eagle high velocity bullets. 40 bullets for under a fiver.
What distance would you get with subs on greys?

My location is irrelevant because we have travelled further than limerick for shooting shops lol. Anyone with a good selection in your area?

Is that cci high velocity you use on vermin? Have you tried subs or is there a reason you don't use them?

I have a tin of lapua standard club that I find the most accurate. Only drawback is they're round nose bullets. Can you get lapua subs in hollow point?
I was impressed with Winchester subs grouping too, and unless I can get lapua hp subs to try I think I will buy a lot of them and stick with them.
You're happy with subs on vermin then?

American eagles are good I forgot them I got a heap of them very chaep when bought my .22 1st because your man was closing down! Depends where it is they are awful crafty and you'd be doing well to get within 100 yards!

They sometimes seem to be out of range no matter what you have.
I think I'll pick a brand that suits the rifle in both subs and high velocity and take it from there.
Ever try to lure the greys while your lying covered with camo netting?

LOL OK wasn't asking for your GPS location. But anyway. If you try John at the "Anglers Curse" in Croom or maybe Ray Sampson, "Lazy Dog" in Knocklong, either of those would/should be able to help you. Stay away from the fella in Limerick City, "I Got Worms". I've tried a few times but he's a disaster as far as shooting is concerned.

I'll pm my coordinates immediately so :p.
Cool so I'll give them a shout. You should get something for the worms, pet shop might help ya lol.
    Thanks for the contacts!

Shot remington HV out of semi autos for years and put down hundreds of bunnies (when there was bunnies) . Changed over to a bolt action and use Eley subs, very accurate winchester are my secound choice. Duffy's will post ammo out, if your going past the shop one transaction will put you on the system.

I guess different guns suit the Remington ammo then. Bunnies are the same in west Clare now,non existent nearly. Disease, mink, pine Martin, they got a lot to fight against.
    Might shout duffys so,
    Thanks.

The brother uses CCI's out of his Anchutz and always gets a very tight group.

Its CCI standard Velocity (Sub Sonic) used with a SAK moderator - nice an quite!
Very rarely use High Velocity as they do not group as tight as the sub sonic rounds.
