titanium lock

I park my current bike (specialised sirrus) in town a LOT and luckily (touchwood) never had it stolen.

I'm hopefully going to be getting a new road bike for commuting and weekend spins, going to spend about €1400, so this bike in town is a lot more likely to be eyed up by lock cutter types.

I hate the idea of lugging around more than one really heavy lock, so I looked online for 'lightweight' secure locks and came across this titanium lock.
I like it, I like how it attaches to the bike, and it seems quite secure.
Does anyone know of anything similar to be bought here?
I looked but couldn't see anything - and maybe there's a reason for this.

Here's the link, there's some videos too.

Honestly, I wouldn't dream of leaving that much bike in the city centre for any length of time regardless of the lock(s) used to secure it.

Is there any possibility of having a second bike and using that for trips into town? If possible, I'd keep Sirrus and invest in a good cable lock and a Fahgettaboudit U-lock.

    That TiGr looks pretty!

Yes, there is that option I suppose.
I've been parking my bike in town for the last 8 years, and never had any problems, but I read how many bikes are stolen, so yes, probably not a good idea.

The titanium lock is cool isn't it, not seen anything remotely similar in shops here though.

Well I emailed the company who make these titanium locks to see if they had distributers in Ireland/ uk, I got a very nice reply saying they don't yet, but are looking into it.
In the meantime, they could ship out a lock to me with 10% discount, but a hefty $50 p&p to Ireland.

The total for this would then be €185.
    Would that be absolute madness?

I'm about to get a new bike and don't fancy carrying round a heavy ulock and chain (which I'd have to buy anyway).

Oh, I also emailed ART to see if they had tested this lock yet as it's not listed on their website, I asked had it failed or just not been tested. I received a mysterious reply back this morning which read:

    Good afternoon,

This lock is not mentioned in our list as it is not approved.
We cannot inform you about if it is tested negative, or if it is not tested at all.

    Best regards

Nice-looking lock. Wonder how you'd secure it on a woman's bike when you're cycling.

By the way, speaking in fantasy-bike-thief mode, I'd just saw through the steel cylinder ;)

Would you think of sticking a GPS finder on the bike too?

Well the new bike I'm getting will have a horizontal(ish) top frame, you probably couldn't use it on a v shaped frame.

I know, the big downside seems to be the steel cylinder.
