My monitor has a bit of discolouration at the top from the unshielded speakers.

I've been reading up a bit on bucking magnets that you put on the back of your speakers and it cancels out the magnetic field.

Any of you lads know where you might pick some of these up?

Not sure where you'd get them but is it worth temporarily removing the speakers for the time being to reduce any possible permanent damage?

Might have to do that. Source down a pair of insulated speakers and put them in instead.

Kinda wanted to keep it all original though. I know something like speakers shouldn't matter, but it kinda matters to me!

Maybe I could take bucking magnets out of a pair of insulated computer speakers.

Are you sure the speakers in it are original?

It was one of the questions I asked Ronnie when originally asking about the cab. He said he hadn't changed them out...then again, maybe they'd been changed over the years previous to that. Never thought of that.

I'll take that back part off again and have another look at them.

Definitely check them out. Part of the monitor problem I had was due to the crappy cheap unshielded speakers Ronnie installed on my cab.
I'd imagine that any standard speakers inside a candy would be shielded and inside a speaker box instead of just the raw speakers.
I eventually found the exact speakers he used on my cab, 2-3 euro they cost for both of them new

Standard cab speakers should be shielded , are you sure it's from the speakers ?

My Cute had some discolouration in the left top corner after buying and moving it , the manual degauss wouldn't take care of it so I bought a cheap degaussing wand on ebay and that worked like a charm .

Hmm, it's a purple section of screen about half an inch or less in thickness stretching along the top from one side to the other. It's very feint, you can only see it when the screen is white or a colour close to white. Once there are normal colours on screen you cant see it at all.

I was thinking it was the very edge of the magnetic field from the speakers. When I had the speaker compartment open, there was no boxing around the speakers - they were just there exposed.

However I didn't know anything about bucking magnets at the time, so can't remember if they had them or not.

Good idea on the degauss wand. There's the usual big thick degauss coil around the monitor, but it does it on boot. There's no manual button I can see.

Will pick up a wand anyway, definitely something worth owning.

Nice one. Presumably it has to go into a step-down before use?

I do with mine and it does work with the step down but the ad says it's really 220V .
These things are cheap and overheat fast , you probably kill it if you keep the button pressed down for more than 20 seconds or so .
Start with small circles in the middle of the screen and make them bigger while you slowly move backwards , should take no more that 10 seconds .

FYI These wands a pieces o cr*p. they will really heat up after 10seconds of being plugged in, not even button pressed, just plugged in! and shock you or worse after 15-20seconds. no lie, i got one last week, it lasted 4 presses and stopped working, got a slight shock off it. it will deguass but it will only last a few goes.

I used mine for 3 years now and didn't run into trouble yet , I use it with a stepdown on 110V .
It shouldn't heat up when the button is not pressed though, yours was probably powered up all the time when plugged in because of a faulty button .

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,751 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Shipped already, that was quick. :)

Same here. Got the notification this morning. Looking forward to receiving this. I'll try it out on my Dell first, though that has a degauss button too but feck it, give it a lash for the laugh no? :)

You must have got a good one!

Honestly, mine heated up big time and shocked me, ive since read over on jamma+ that its happened to others, i only got mine last week. it takes about 2-3 weeks to arrive once shipped too.

It did work initially mind you, and does what its supposed to.
