It is confidence thing like a striker in football if he is banging them in he is on form but then when he is having a poor season the head goes down and the misses become woeful,,,i wouldnt give a **** what your shooting buddies think, whats worse be a thick for 5 minutes or a thick for the rest of your life.(dont mean that literaly)
If you dont get a bit of help shooting will just become a missery for you instead of a source of enjoyment.
It could be a number of things your dominant eye can change as you get older, you might need glasses or your just so anxious your just rushing your shot.
Your doing the right thing getting a bit of help.

Could be worth getting someone to check your gun fit for you..

A clay trap and 250 shells and 150 clays are cheap enough to get practice in too.

never mind the lads ur shooting with, practise makes perfect, burst a few clays if there is a shooting ground near ya,if not as an op said go for a pidgeoens on your own,we all get a dip in confidence when we miss a bird or clay etc, from time to time, jayus when i got back into shooting afew yrs ago i couldnt even hit a pheasant flying 2ft in front of me,even if i was to throw a cartridge at never mind fireing 1 at him:o:oeven now if i miss im kicking meslf:D:Ddont be panicing it will come back to you

Just make sure you are not using heavy gram shells ,they will spread much later and stay more compact so shooting pigeons that are flying fast and in close will be though shots to pull off, practice by trowing the gun up in front of a mirror and have a look at the way you are holding it ,make sure your not choking the the forestock and pulling the gun up, all movements should by swift and free flowing, when trowing the gun up i step forward with the foot on the side that is holding the forestock and lift my heel on my back foot ,this allows you to pivot around on the ball of your foot and when the gun recoils your heel presses back down. Make sure you blot your target and try not to be looking at it, this is major problem with lads as you end up firing under the target...just practice and try not get too dishartened if it not going right for you at the start.

There's lot's of advice to be had here if you can be more specific. That, coupled with lessons should have you spot on in no time.

I think you should advise us of every possible tidbit of information. It would be best to minimize the number of problems before you have your lessons.

It might be your eyesight deteriorating a little bit in your master eye and your other eye taking over causing all the misses. Happened to me and it's a pain. You can fix it by blanking off the other eye Or getting spectacles.
