    Hey guys,

First of all, I'd like to say that I hope you're all happy with results! I'm off to UCD to study Spanish, so I'm delighted c:

Sadly I might not be able to go because I only sent off my online application last night.. My dad only got a copy of his P21 this week and now I'm terrified the grant won't come through on time for college.
I've heard horror stories about the letters taking weeks to arrive too, and I really don't have that time.
Would I still be considered if my application was being processed into September? Theoretically I sent it off before the deadline, but still like..

Thanks for the help! Nobody in my family has applied to college in about 20 years (I'm the oldest of the youngest generation) so there's not many places I can look for advice etc

Your grant application will still go through like, but you'll be waiting longer than people who applied when it initially opened as there's already a fair backlog up there.

I don't really care about an extra 30 quid a month really, just more paying for fees. UCD is like, 5 grand a year. Even with "free" fees, they'd hit you for a Student Contribution of half the fees! Only with the Student Grant do you get everything covered like :s

Student contribution is €2250 this year, which your grant should cover if you're approved. The college will understand you're waiting on your letter, but you won't be fully enrolled until you get it (ie: you mightn't be able to use the library facilities, gym, etc, without a student card). You'll have to pay another smaller fee yourself, think it's around €180 in UCD.

If that's what your worried about, don't! You do not have to pay fees until you get conformation as to whether or not you are receiving the grant!

They will get your form but it may take a little longer for you to get the letter from them saying if you are eligible for the next step. What I would do is be getting your documents ready e.g. copies of birth cert, evidence you have lived in the country for 3 off the last 5 years, p45/p60's, if there is anyone on social welfare download the form and send that to the social welfare office.
If you have the majority of documents ready then all you will have to do is send them straight away if you are eligible!

No, you will be fully enrolled, but you do have to pay the student service charge, which is 128 euro in UCD!

No you're not fully enrolled, it happened to me last year. You're only provisionally enrolled, and I'm pretty sure it's €183 in UCD this year.

Well, that is wrong and you should have complained to the college about it! Don't say stuff to a man who knows all about the grant and rights students have in claiming it! And sorry I didn't get the student charge right.

Uh no it's definitely not wrong, and if you were a man who knows all about the grant and student rights, you should know the student services rate. You should also know that you cannot register fully until your fees are paid (either by the grant, or yourself), and if the college is waiting on your grant status to be confirmed, they can't fully enrol you as if they did, they'd be left out of pocket if your grant wasn't confirmed.

You will be fully enrolled once the council approves the grant. It doesn't matter when the fees are paid as long as there is proof they will be paid by the council.

this year, when you register online, UCD will have a place where you put n your grant application number in. That way they will know you're waiting to hear about the grant & SUSI will let them know if you get it. The grant usually isn't paid to the colleges until October anyway because some people drop out early & they don't want to have paid for them. So no need to worry. Well done on getting your place!

Also, you do have to pay €183 which is not covered by the grant. It's called the student center levy. They want people to pay half when they register. You will be fully enrolled, and you will be able to use all facilities and will receive a student card. Not sure what Avox is talking about but I'm going into my 4th year in UCD and I've never been able to pay fees on time & never encountered a problem. They can put a hold on your account if you don't pay fees where you wont get your exam results & can't get in to the library but they do that later in the semester, not at the start.
But anyway that wont happen to you. As I said above, there will be a place where you can fill in your grant application number when registering, so SUSI will let UCD know the status of your grant.

Yep, that is the worst that can happen! But SUSI should improve times of getting through the material (as there are a lot of workers and most of it is done online) so it shouldn't take too long!

Yeah, that's what I said. the other poster said you'll be fully enrolled before the council approves it, which is very very wrong.

Nope, nope, nope. Please read the last three posts by myself and another poster please! You SHOULD have been fully enrolled in the system, the fact you weren't is a disgrace and should be looked at. You should complain to the University, and your Grant awarding authority about it.

The previous poster said she wasn't fully enrolled but that in UCD you can still use the library. You do NOT get fully enrolled until you get your grant confirmation. Some colleges may let you use the facilities but some won't (NUIM definitely don't.).

You were saying Avox? Look, seriously. I know this stuff, I want to run for Welfare Officer in my SU. I have read up on this stuff and helped out a student in NUIG last year who encountered the same problem. He was fully registered a day after we complained.

I was fully enrolled even though I didn't get the grant & paid my fees late.
