never saw such a stag but it must be impressive. Prefer prickets as far as i am concerned. Tastier and easier to load.
Actually you will need some help to drag that beast , i put my hand up :D

From what i heard the stag you mentioned was released from a park or was even shot in a park.

Just make sure the stag you mentioned had a chance to cover afew does in the herd and also there is a decent stag close by to take his place. If there is no stag to cover the does in the herd the herd will split up and you will have just ruined your own sport. I know of 2 different idiots who shot 22 pointers before they ever had a chance to cover a doe and they are the very boys that go on talking crap about management!

Leave him alone for a few more years, until he is past his prime, then take him.He will have added to the gene pool, and life will be getting harder, and he more than likely will be not the dominant stag anymore ,so then is the best time IMO to drop them.

bTW link is dead in previous post.

a head like that must cost a bomb to mount, also it must be worth alot of money when finished.

Better off just doing a skull job for somthing that big.Even in a manor house somthing like thatin a quarter mount takes up a massive amount of space,so it would be out of proportion in a normal dwelling.

i was thinking it would be mounted and sold to someone rich with a country manner, even the rack would swamp a normal house

We have a herd here at home for the last 14 years, all red deer, in all that time we have had some lovely stags and were constantly photographed, but never seen any thing more than 18 points on a stag, and he would be 6 years of age or that. Would be amazed if somebody had a 28 pointer, but 32 is mad stuff altogether !!

I know a lad that has a huge 23 pointer mounted in his house, it looks amazing. Even if you hang it on the floor of your house, it is worth a full mount to truely honour such a beast.
Otherwise, what's the point of trophy shooting. Leave the skull mounts for the 8 pointers and then go full mounth for everything exceptional.

IF you have a grand or two to throw at it.Everyone else goes for skull mounts for the bigger beasts, and even then they are somtimes reduced to cap mounts. Show up with a red deer quater mount at a trophy show in Europe and they would think you some kind of ostentatious spendthrift.
Lads rarely do it in Europe, unless it was somthing exceptionel,[apart from the trophy size itself] The rack size says it all,no need to over guild the lilly.;)

Not often we disagree, Mr Griz, but on this one, we'll have to park it here I think.
I guess I've seen enough mounted heads in Europe to know I'm not exactly wrong.
It depends on who you're doing the mount for, or why you’d even want a trophy on your wall?
The 23 pointer was mounted on a beautiful wooden shield and expertly too, for €750 not three years ago.
That ain't ostentatious in anyone's book, in my opinion.

As you said DS,for those that want it.
However go and put up a lifetime worth of hunted red stags in quarter mounts even a very large house, and it would become a risky busisness going to the John in the middle of the night if you forget to put on the lights. Even massive antlers done as skull mounts take up at least 1.5x1.5 meters of space now move that out by at least a meter with the mount and you are talking a good bit of space gone out of a room.

750 is very reasonable indeed:eek: .You could be talking about 1500 plus over in Europe and a 12month wait betimes.Might be another reason it isnt that common.

Every horned animal I shoot have been/ will be skull mounted.

However I do believe that when a massive trophy is got, it deserves a full mount! My friend has a 24 point red mounted over his stairs and it is just unbelievable.

An animal of that significance deserves a full mount and if I ever get a special trophy it will get a full mount but for now everything is skull mounted!

the trophy isnt all about the amount of points the current number two shot in this country has twenty one points and that took the place of a thirty two pointer .and looks far better than the thirty two pointer as well il c if i can dig up a few pics of him
