Honda Accord Brakes

I have tried to change the rear brake pads on my 2007 Honda Accord ictdi but have not been able to get the pistons to retract in the calipers. I have unscrewed the top to the master cylinder and even released the bleed nipple slightly, but to no avail. Am I missing something? I have left the handbrake connected, could this be the problem?
