CAO Choices

I put down a course in Maynooth as my first choice on my CAO. I needed a HL B1 in maths, but I got a B2.

I have since decided that I no longer want to do the course, and I really want to get my second choice instead.

I know an entry requirement is an entry requirement, but I also know Maynooth do some sort of second-chance maths exam. IF I get offered to do this exam, can I decline it and still get offered my second choice?

Going by this link: http://www.irishtimes.com/blogs/campus-times/2012/08/17/how-can-i-find-out-more-about-the-nui-maynooth-friday-august-24th-offer-second-chance-higher-level-maths-exams/ and a quick google, the second-chance exam is only for those applying for engineering courses who didn't get the HC3. I could be wrong on this, but I'd be inclined to think you just won't be offered your first choice then.

Also, I can't see how that'd work, since if you were offered the NUIM exam and failed it, you'd have to go to your second CAO choice, and the results of the NUIM exam would hardly be out by the second round of CAO, so you'd end up not getting your first OR second choices, despite getting enough points. Sorry I can't be more help on this, hope the offers go your way!

Computational Thinking? It's the only I can see that required a B1 at Higher Level. My reading of it is that you can only do the maths exam for the listed engineering courses and your course is on that, and as you don't have the maths requirement you won't be offered it tomorrow so you should get your second offer, assuming you meet requirements and have enough points.

Check the Maynooth site and see if the maths exam is offered to any other courses.

Even if the exam was an option for your course, there's no onus on you to take it.

If you're currently not eligible for your first choice, and you do qualify for your second choice, that should be the offer you get.
