    Following on from this thread:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056730355

I'd like to ask the regulars to do me a favour!

Could you put up a list of 5-7 songs that would be your favourite hip-hop numbers. I'm trying to broaden my horizons. The kind of stuff I like is classic hip hope (Tribe Called Quest, Nas and lyrically clever stories IT, MJEX, Astronautilis, beats wise Preemo does it for me too. Quite fond of Death Grips and Das Racist too)

But basically I'll listen to all suggestions.

At the end I'll stick them all in a playlist and post it up here for anyone else that wants it.

    Thanks

I'll just post names of songs because my laptop gets really slow trying to load a page of about 20 videos on this.

    Runnin - Pharcyde
Above the clouds - Gang starr
Thieves in the night - Blackstar
    GZA - Labels
    Change - Shadez of Brooklyn
I can't go to sleep - Wu tang clan
    Temperatures Rising - Mobb Deep.

Probably just the 7 tracks I've been listening to the most over the past couple of months, all top notch imo.

    I'll follow Paddy and just post names of tracks in case of people's laptops lagging;

Digable Planets - Black Ego (Jazz Rap; similar to ATCQ, maybe not as good lyrically, but the production is masterful)

Cannibal OX -Iron Galaxy (Abstract Rap; some of the best lyricism in hip hop, futuristic, spacey production, The Cold Vein is probably the best hip hop album of the 2000s)

De La Soul - Stakes Is High (J Dilla on the beat, Plug One and Two on the mic, perfect :))

Cunninlynguists - The Gates (Gorgeous production by Kno, and Tonedeff and Decan the Villain sound great on here)

Common - BE (One of my favourite Kanye beats, and one of favourite verses by Common.)

This is very difficult. Could list 20 easily. I'll try limit myself.

260 by Ghostface Killah feat. Raekwon - My favourite Ghost song. Beat is brilliant and Ghost lays a class verse. Rae kills it though. One of the best verses I've heard, "2 hours later, schemin' like De Niro in Casino, son better have more coke than Al Pacino". Just love it.

Thuggin' by Freddie Gibbs and Madlib - Every time I hear this song it gets better and better. Their latest offering, Shame, is brilliant as well and could go on the playlist as well.

Still D.R.E. by Dr. Dre feat. Snoop - I've listened to this song more than any other over the years. Never get sick of it.

Ultimate Victory by Chamillionaire - His best song and my favourite of all time.

The Crazy 88 by Emcee Jermaine - This is just a ridiculous song. It only has 420 views on Youtube. I've probably contributed half of them. Better than 99% of other songs released this year. Emcee Jermaine is the man. I'm struggling to think of another rapper who could spit for 3 and a half minutes with that intensity.

Shutterbugg by Big Boi - Crazy beat and crazy rapping from one of the all time greats. In my top 5 albums.

Hate It Or Love It by The Game feat. 50 - Beat is fiyaaaahhhh!!! 50 and Game spit their best ever verses in my opinion. All round classic.

Very honourable mentions go out to Paparazzi (Xzibit), Breathe (Fabolous), '93 Til (Souls of Mischief). Tomorrow they could be in my list.

Lupe Fiasco - Put You On Game

I dont know if this is what you're looking for at all, here's a few highlights from what I've been listening to lately:

    Big L- "Put It On"
    Yelawolf - "Father's Day"
DJ Khaled  (Feat. Nas and Scarface) - "Hip Hop"
    Royce Da 5" 9" - "Shake This"
Joey Bada$$ (Feat. Capital Steez) - "Survival Tactics"
    Killer Mike - "Reagan"
Xzibit (Feat. Travis Barker) - "Napalm" (From Travis Barker's mixtape, not to be confused with the album of the same name he is releasing).

Be sure to stick the full playlist up at the end, plenty of stuff I haven't heard been posted.
