Hi, just wondering when will the cut-off points be known for the courses this year? Will it be as early as Monday or does it take a few days to publish? Can anyone recommend good source - will it be on cao site? Thanks!

You will know on Monday. It will be in the day's papers (Independent definitely) and then on the CAO website at some stage (not sure what time). For your own course, you'll know if you have been offered it around 6am.

Boards can often be the first place. From time to time, someone will know someone who works for one of the newspapers and they post up the points as early as 2AM on Monday morning. Failing that, someone gets a copy of the paper from a 24 hour newsagent or shop and post up scans.

I might be wrong, but isn't Monday just going to be first round points? And the cut off is third or after?

I kinda assumed the OP was just asking when the points would be released, but you're right, the final cut off won't be known until around mid September, when all rounds have been offered. Most courses don't offer a second round though.

Ah right, I was just making sure - thought I'd been getting it wrong all along. :P

ok, just want to get this clear, so possible very early (before the CAO offers) word may come through of what the cutoff points for round one offers are for the courses? So based on that it should be clear what course a particular applicant should get?
Are the offers printed in the newspaper before they appear online? Years back they were released that way.

The points sheet will be printed in the newspapers overnight. Technically the offers at 6am should be the first anyone hears of what the points are, but usually someone gets a hold of the morning delivery of the paper (I seem to remember around 4am, could be earlier) and puts up a screenshot...this usually finds its way to boards, I'm sure people might put it on facebook/twitter as well.

If you see the points sheet before the offers, and your course is coming up as lower than what you got in the LC, then you will be offered the course. So yes, it will be clear for most people what they will be offered (if they stay up that late!). If a course is random selection (with an asterisk beside the points) the applicants have to wait until the offers come out to see who gets in, they're not guaranteed it.

No they stopped printing the offers in the paper years ago

Someone usually scans them in here from an early edition of the indo or times.

Boards is THE place for this news.

3 years ago one of my daughters knew what her points would be before midnight on the Sunday (i.e. the equivalent of today) because the headline on the Irish Times headline was about the points for Science rising - a front page article (front page was available online) stated UCD Science had gone up by 50.

This blimmin' Points Debacle does make for high drama - but experience has proved that those who didn't get their 1st, 2nd - or maybe even 7th choices - discovered that things actually turned out okay - sometimes even for the better - in the end.

Last year, screenshots of the scanned supplement from the Times (I think, could have been the Indo) went up at about 1am-2am :)

Do they not do Aertel anymore?

Aertel had it at midnight but mine was the exact points I had, but with the dreaded asterix (*)

Even though I know I got my first choice, I'm still very curious as to what the cutoffs are going to be like this year after those 25 points. Also because I'll know if some of my friends will get their courses too
