    Hi,

My phone and broadband stops working every couple of days.

The phone does not have a dial tone

Any ideas on what the problem might be.

When I power cycle the router it fixes the problem.

Same thing was happening to me a couple of weeks back. Rang UPC and arranged a callout, guy arrived middle of last week. He asked me did I have any other tv points, I told him there was one in my bedroom which was just the basic cable stations. He then said thats what was causing the problem as the signal is so sensitive these days with the on demand service etc. Sounds like complete BS to me but what could I say. Anyway he fixed it and it all works fine again now.
So he then proceeds to disconnect my bedroom tv signal and says if I want it reconnected to ring the sales team and tell them, which he believes will set me back another €4 a month. I never knew you had to pay extra for each working tv point in your house.
I'm already paying them €124-ish per month as it is(the middle tv package with sky sports, the old HD channels, 30 mg broadband and free landline calls) I think its a p!sstake too far too be honest.

I must try to disconnect everything except the modem and see if it makes a difference.

    Made no difference.

They are sending a technician next week.

When I rang the helpdesk they were able to see something odd with the modem.

Technician came today, tested the line, it was OK and replaced the modem.

    Hopefully that will solve it.

I had a similar problem for ages, had loads of technicians in, modem replaced. none could fix it. Eventually the power supply blew and i replaced it with a higher amp one since i had one lying around. Works ever since.

Good idea. I might try this if the problem reoccurs.

    Thanks for that.

Just to update it has been working perfectly for the past week. Also the WiFi is working better with the this router.

The old router must have been a dud.
