    Hi guys,

I am seriously considering taking a package through a travel agent and going to this years Ryder Cup.

One thing that slightly puts me off is the fact that at the event, you really miss 90% of the action in comparison to what you can view on tv.

Also, there is less golfers than a regular tournament so you would imagine the crowds would be crazy at each match. Is it easy to follow matches or should you stay in one spot all day?

In one way I am really keen to go as I think the atmosphere will be electric. However, it is alot of money to spend and then possibly be frustrated with constantly straining to see the action and know what is going on.

Would appreciate are people's thoughts on this...especially if you have attended a Ryder Cup in the past??

I'm hoping to attend sometime in the future, 2014 all going well. What kind of money and package is on offer?

Was in Celtic Manor. my thoughts are that it is much better on tv as nigh on impossible to keep up with how all matches are going, don't really see much action really, as crowds, walking around...much more enjoyable watching on tv.

For this year, planning on a stay cation, playing golf in morning, watching the Ryder Cup in evening due to time difference.

I was at the K Club and at Valhalla. Both were fantastic experiences (in spite of that prat Nick Faldo) and I would definitely recommend going.

A pocket radio tuned to the on course radio is essential for all golf tournaments...

Was at the KCkub on the Friday, it was just magical. Started on the 1st and hung around the first 5 holes for about 2 hours then finished sitting in the stands on 16

We had the tournament radio earpieces so we were well up to date with all that was going on.

Was at Celtic Manor and rented a small portable TV that was being provided by an American company.
Well worth going for the atmosphere alone.

    Thanks guys.

I think I will go for it!

When I was in Valhalla in 2008, they were giving out radios with coverage of the golf for anyone with an American Express card. Don't know if it will apply this time around, but may be worth looking into.

Was lucky enough to be at The Belfry 2002 for the weekend , all of 2006 at the KClub & Sat & Sunday in Celtic Manor.....yes you miss out on TV but you cannot beat being there in person. Simply awesomse as the Yanks would say.

was at celtic manor on the saturday, we arrived on the 17th green to see mcilroy hole that monster putt, great atmosphere around it.

saw tons of golf, as delays meant there was golf until it got dark.

I wouldn't go again though, tbh. Its very very busy and expensive as hell, I think it was £100 a ticket per day.

I am one of these guys though, that when I go to the european tour events, I pick some unknown golfer who is up and coming and follow him around for 16 holes.

I think atmosphere is very subjective. I just cant get into the spirit of it, singing 'europe europe', it just feels wrong!

It would be interesting to see it in the US though.

Best thing to do imo if you have the cash this year is to incorporate a golf trip into it,play golf in the morning and find a good pub after that, maybe Portugal if not too cold.
Went to CM and although it was good I would not go again.

That sounds like a great idea. Weather in Portugal at end September would be just about ideal and plenty of bars where you can watch the golf with like minded spirits.

The bumph that comes with the tickets for this years Ryder Cup, states that there are 10 large screens around the course showing live action and the 'on course radio' is linked into that commentary so hopefullly we should be able to keep up with whats going on.

Been to Belfry, Brookline, K-Club, Valhalla & Celtic Manor. Would love to be going to Medinah & would definitely go if I had the funds :(. Chicago will be brilliant!
As for the R.C. itself - it's the best sporting event in the world - bar none, imo. Of course you see more on Sky Sports - but not in person. Watching on tv you don't get the memories of "I was there when they invaded the 17th green. I was there when ....." The atmosphere is just electric. To bum a quote from the gaa - "nothing beats being there!". On site there are plenty of big screens & places to stop, sit, relax, have a beer & catch up with all the action on tvs. The portable trannie is also a must for the week to stay up to date through your earpiece.
There obviously will be crowds - 30,000 divided between 4 matches - but you get to know the best vantage points on the course & usually at R.C. venues you can view more than one hole from such points. As for following matches - slow people & nice people will see nothing - it's all about getting there first!

Hope this helps. My advice to you is definitely go if you can - you wont regret it!
